13 Bloodlines

In this mythology, families and dynasties linked by blood are presented as the core of the ‘Illuminati’ and as satanic actors working toward the advent of a ‘New World Order’. The narrative explains political, economic, financial and cultural power not through institutions, interests or historical processes, but through an alleged hidden caste whose authority is passed on by blood.

The theory circulates in far-right, antisemitic, esoteric and QAnon-adjacent milieus. It often combines older myths about secret societies and elite clubs with more recent conspiracy mongering about the so-called Deep State, the World Economic Forum, the Bilderberg Meeting, the Trilateral Commission or the Great Reset. In this sense, the “13 Bloodlines” narrative functions as a flexible framework into which different globalist, satanic, anti-elite or apocalyptic conspiracy claims can be inserted.

Some versions explicitly target Jewish families, with an obsessive focus on Rothschilds, and Jewish public figures such as the billionaire financier and philanthropist George Soros,  rehashing the classic antisemitic fantasy of hidden Jewish world power. Other variations on the theory add families or dynasties such as the Rockefellers, the Windsors, the Astors, the Bundys, the DuPonts or the Kennedys, blurring historical dynasties, banking families, aristocratic houses, political lineages and invented genealogies into a single conspiratorial framework.

One of the best-known sources of the contemporary ‘bloodlines’ narrative is the American conspiracy writer Fritz Springmeier, whose 1998 book Bloodlines of the Illuminati helped popularize the idea of hereditary ‘Illuminati’ families. In this reading, ‘bloodline’ refers not only to ancestry, but as the engine of occult power, satanic ritual, mind control, political manipulation and control over major world events.

The theory also overlaps with ‘Satanic panic’ narratives. Like Pizzagate and QAnon, it  portrays public life as the façade of a hidden system run by a depraved elite. Its explanatory power is all-encompassing: wars, financial crises, public health policies, elections, migration, technological change or cultural liberalization can all be viewed as signs of the same secret hereditary plan.

There is no evidence that a group of thirteen hereditary families secretly governs the world. The “13 Bloodlines” theory should be understood as a paranoid, ideologically- driven supposition that poses as theory, fusing older myths about the ‘Illuminati', antisemitic tropes about Jewish power, ‘Satanic Panic’ imagery, anti-globalist claims and contemporary online conspiracy culture.
