RFK JR. After declaring he was abandoning his presidential campaign as an independent to back Donald Trump, the anti-vaccine activist spoke to pro-Putin, Trump-lauding broadcaster Tucker Carlson, declaring that the Republican nominee would, if elected for a second term, “release the files on JFK’s assassination”. RFK Jr has vigorously promoted disproven theories that his uncle, the former US President, was assassinated in 1963 due to a CIA conspiracy. In the rambling interview with Carlson, Kennedy declared Trump has asked him to join his presidential transition team should he be elected in November (Source: The Independent, August 27, 2024)

DONALD TRUMP. The Republican nominee for United States president posted on the Truth Media Social platform from an “N-word-spewing” account that claims “Hitler was right” and the Holocaust “never happened”. The extremist account Trump promoted includes claims “Jews have been capitalizing on niggers for thousands of years”; “Hitler was right”; the Holocaust was “the Holohoax. 6 Million never happened.”; “I'm a proud White Nationalist” and “Make Antisemitism Great Again” (Source: Media Matters for America, August 25, 2024).
ANTISEMITISM. After a synagogue was attacked in La Grande-Motte in southern coastal France, security camera evidence clearly showed the suspected terrorist who firebombed the building and tried to kill Jews inside was wearing a Palestinian flag and keffiyeh. Yet antisemitic conspiracy theorists online denied the proof and said it was all a conspiracy - by the Jews. Their posts got millions of views. The suspect in the attack, a 33 year-old Algerian national who has lived legally in France for several years, has been charged with attempted murder and terrorist conspiracy and held in custody. It is the first time the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office is handling a case of antisemitism since the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023. Officials said the man had expressed deep hatred of Jews and told investigators that he had acted to “support the Palestinian cause” (Sources: The New York Times, August 28, 2024; Le Monde, August 29, 2024)
PAVEL DUROV. Antisemitic pro-Trumper Candace Owens got herself in a Kremlinesque France-bashing rage after her pal Pavel Durov, the billionaire Russian-born founder of Telegram was arrested in France. “The entire world is watching France right now, Owens wrote in a post on X tagging French President Emmanual Macron. “ RELEASE PAVEL DUROV, you inbred psychopaths,” she continued, after asserting without evidence that France due to First Lady Brigitte Macron is “run by pedophiles” and in the grip of the “deep state”. A cacophony of conspiracy theorists from Owens to X owner Elon Musk, far right Republican Congresswoman ‘Moscow Marjorie’ Taylor Greene, former Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson, unabashed misogynist Andrew Tate, far right media agitator Alex Jones and the Russian diplomatic corps claimed there was a French plot against Durov and free speech. President Macron responded in French and English on X saying he had seen false information and reiterating that “France is deeply committed to freedom of expression” and was a state governed by the rule of law, with an independent judiciary. “The arrest of the president of Telegram on French soil took place as part of an ongoing judicial investigation, “ Macron wrote. “It is in no way a political decision. It is up to the judges to rule on the matter.” Durov, who acquired French citizenship in 2021, is being formally investigated for complicity in the distribution of child sex abuse images, aiding organized crime and refusing lawful orders to give information to law enforcement (Sources: USA Today, August 29, 2024; Deutsche Welle, August 29, 2024; BBC News, August 29, 2024).
